Leicester City will win the Premier League title if they beat
Manchester United at Old Trafford. It is a sentence that, even after all
that has gone before in this most unpredictable of seasons, still comes
across as utterly ridiculous when spoken out loud. But as Foxes fans
head to the aptly named Theatre of Dreams, it will be in expectation
rather than hope that their side can get over the line.
Claudio Ranieri’s side are on the brink of what was deemed
impossible. Since Blackburn Rovers’s shock title win in 1995, the
Premier League has been dominated by those fortunate few who have the
history or finances – or in some cases both – to compete at the very top
of the richest league in the world on a regular basis. Even that has
not been enough for some – a fact that Liverpool supporters will
certainly attest to. Only an injection of funds, such as those seen at
both Chelsea and Manchester City, would likely break that monopoly.
And though Leicester chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, is far from
shy when offering his wealth to boost the club’s profile on and off the
pitch, this Leicester story has shocked the sporting world. Two years
ago they were a Championship team about to embark on a first top-flight
campaign in a decade. Twelve months later they were being written off as
yet another club who failed to make the transition from the second-tier
as they faced an inevitable relegation.

But after a run of games that has seen them lose on just four of the
last 44 occasions they have taken to the field for a league match, they
are on the verge of completing a feat that is truly historical. One more
victory in their final three fixtures of the season would secure the
unlikeliest piece of silverware in the modern football landscape.
Quoted as 5000/1 outsiders for the title before the season began and
with a manager who was being written off before he took his first
training session, another campaign of fighting for relegation was on the
cards. Ranieri himself refused to talk about anything other than
survival until his team reached 40 points in early January, but even he
could not have believed quite how his side have exceeded all
expectations.
A handful of lucky punters still harbour hopes of big money pay-outs
should the Foxes get the job done after backing them in the early weeks
of the season, and around Leicester all events are now geared towards
watching the town’s new heroes on Sunday afternoon. Though they have
been denied permission to screen the match inside the King Power Stadium
for those supporters not travelling north to Manchester, pubs and homes
in the east Midlands are sure to be packed with those waiting for what
now seems the inevitable to finally become reality.
"Now is the real chance to win the title. Next season, you never
know," Ranieri told reporters in his pre-match press conference. "It is
once in a lifetime. Next season, United, Chelsea, Manchester City and
Arsenal will all be at the top. It is like the Hollywood movies. We want
a happy ending." Certainly the producers of the prospective 'Jamie
Vardy: The Movie' will be hopeful their own team of scriptwriters in
blue can finish the job on the biggest of stages.
But as the champagne is put on ice and the celebration parties are
planned, it is worth remembering that standing in their way is a
Manchester United team with objectives and prizes of their own still to
play for. Leicester may have swept almost all before them this season,
but this final hurdle is set to be one of the most difficult to
overcome.
No Premier League side has conceded fewer goals at home than United’s
seven this season, and Louis van Gaal has got into a habit of winning
games few people expect him to. There are not many qualities that most
Red Devils fans can get on board with when it comes to the veteran Dutch
coach, but he has at least brought a resilience and big-game knowhow
back to Old Trafford in his two years at the helm.
Factor in the inconsistencies of both Manchester City and Arsenal
over the past six weeks, and there is a realistic hope that United will
be able to secure a Champions League place for next season. They
currently sit five points behind both clubs with a game in hand, but the
knowledge that at least one will drop points when they play each other
in the penultimate round of fixtures means United can certainly be the
main beneficiary.
Winning the FA Cup would go some way to appeasing supporters who have
struggled to come to terms with their side’s struggles following Sir
Alex Ferguson’s retirement, but the decision makers at the club want
Champions League football as a minimum if their treatment of David Moyes
is anything to go by. Reports suggest Van Gaal needs a place in the top
four to secure himself a third and final season at United, and failure
to beat Leicester would almost certainly end all hope of that.
The Foxes will again be without the suspended Jamie Vardy, and though
they had few difficulties in breaking Swansea City’s resistance without
the England international last time out, United represent a whole new
proposition. Employing Leonardo Ulloa in order to dominate the more
diminutive Daley Blind is certainly an option for Ranieri after a season
in which he has barely put a foot wrong when it comes to team
preparation.
Should his side get over the line, the title will be for him as much
as it is for the players and supporters. On numerous occasions he has
come agonisingly close in title races only to fall short on the final
straight, but now the finish line is inches away.
The fairytale is almost at its happy ending for Ranieri and Leicester,
and the vast majority of the footballing world stands behind them as
they try to get their heads around one simple fact: Leicester City will
win the Premier League title if they beat Manchester United at Old
Trafford.

governor for his forthrightness, doggedness and bravery, saying these have helped in shaping his political career”, he said.

“The present crops of governors in the country are committed people who are ready to take Nigeria to the next level”, he said.
Fayose, who attributed his contributions to God’s guidance and powers, urged the victors to continue to serve the people and always seek the face of God in all their dealings.
The governor added that virtually all his predictions about some happenings in the country have come to fruition , saying this underscored the grace of God over his life.
“Having triumphed over the forces of darkness, I want you to rededicate yourself to the service of God. You must see God as your pillar and be ready to render selfless service to the people”, Fayose counseled.

Soldier Kills Bride's Mum In Delta
The deceased was on her way to the wedding ceremony of her daughter when the incident occurred.
The first son of the deceased, Alero said a keke operator flouted the soldier’s order when he was flagged down and the soldier opened fire leading to the deceased death.
According to him, this reason is not enough for one of the soldiers to release bullets on my mother.
The sister told newsmen at the Ekpan Police station that the killer-soldier had been whisked away by members of the JTF contrary to reports that he had been arrested.
She also said that colleagues of the killer-soldier at the roadblock had been taken to Warri Area Command for questioning.
“They have not arrested the soldier. JTF whisked him away. His colleagues at the road block together with him are now at Warri Area Command.
“It was my mother that was shot not my sister that is wedding today. She was coming for the wedding,” she said.
The Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Celestina Kalu, and the Warri Area Commander, Mohammed Muazu, could not be reached for comment.

Fulani Herdsmen Attacks Archbishop Onaiyekan, Bishops Kick.
The Catholic Archbishop of Benin City, Dr. Augustin Akubueze, and the
Catholic Bishop of Uromi Diocese, Dr. Donatus Ogun, have both appealed
to President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle the issue of the growing attacks
of hoodlums in Edo State.
The Bishops spoke against the backdrop of last Friday’s attempt on the life of John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja.
Akubueze and Ogun said the appeal became urgent following the brazenness with which the herdsmen commit atrocities in the state without adequate security checks.
Cardinal Onaiyekan was attacked by suspected herdsmen along the Benin-Ekpoma Road while returning from the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the enthronement of Akubueze as a bishop and also to attend the 10 years anniversary of the Diocese Uromi.
Akubueze said in an interview in Benin City: “We thank God that Cardinal Onaiyekan survived the attacks of some criminals elements last week on the Benin-Ekpoma Road.
“If something had happened to him, what would have been the story?
“We thank God nothing happened and we are using this opportunity to appeal to Mr. President to provide adequate security for the citizens of Edo State.”
The catholic archbishop stressed that the responsibility of a government is to secure her people, adding: “What we are asking for is not too much for our President.
“If there is no security of lives and property, no investments or meaningful economic development can take place in the state and the nation at large.
“We need security and we are demanding that from our government.”
Akubueze noted that the spate of attacks by so-called herdsmen across the country “is becoming frightening”, adding: “There is an urgent need by the state and Federal Government to deal with the issue of security to protect lives and property of Nigerians with all seriousness.”
Reacting to Cardinal Onaiyekan’s attack, Bishop Ogun said: “What would have happened if the Cardinal was killed?
“It would have been sorry and pains for us, considering that he was coming to attend the 10th anniversary of the creation of Uromi Diocese.
“We thank God he came out unhurt.”
While appealing strongly to President Buhari to help secure the state, the Bishop added: “We need adequate security to protect the lives and property of the residents of the state.
“We cannot continue to live in fear in our own land because of the activities of these criminals.”
Recounting the ordeal, the driver to Onaiyekan, who simply identified himself as Segun, said the attack happened along the Benin-Ekpoma Road close to Ehor at about 5pm on Friday.
According to SEgun: “We left Benin for Uromi and at about 5pm on the fateful day.
“I think very close to Ehor, I saw a big pothole and decided to slow down the vehicle.
“I would have passed the spot with speed but because the cardinal was sleeping, I decided to slow down the vehicle so that he won’t wake up.
“Suddenly, I saw three men come out of the palm tree plantation by the road side and started shooting at the vehicle.
“I looked ahead of me, two of them were firing from a distance at the vehicle and I looked behind me, another one was firing at the vehicle from behind so I decided to use reverse gear.
“The other vehicles who saw me coming with reverse started clearing off the road and when I got to a safe distance, I decided to stop the vehicle and people started running to see what had happened.
“It was then we realised that the bullets shattered the left passenger window glass and made huge holes on the panel of the door.
“We just thank God nothing happened to the cardinal or any of us in the vehicle.”

The Trichotomy Of Man: Spirit Soul And Body
The word of God is the spirit of God. The Word quickens, enlivens,
enlightens, illuminates and rejuvenates. The Breath of God is the Spirit
of God and is the Word of God. The story of the Bible is not the story
of the creation of mankind, it is the story of the creation of Man in
the image and likeness of God: the elevation of the soul of man to the
realm of God.
John 6:63
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Therefore the creation story of Adam is not the story of the creation of mankind, rather it is the story of the creation of man from mankind. It was the fitting of the souls of man with the spirit of God, the Word of God is the spirit of God.
The creation of Adam was the introduction of the Word/Law of God to Man which made man, hitherto a dead soul, to become a living breathing active soul. This is what is presented symbolically as God ‘breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

ENUGU MASSACRE: Northern Govs Under Fire… For Defending Fulani
The 19 northern governors came under criticism yesterday over their
position that the Fulani should not be labelled as criminals.
The Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, asked the governors to bury their heads in shame over their position which came in the wake of the heat generated by the attack on Ukpabi-Ninbo community in Enugu State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, last Monday.
Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) also condemned the governors.
The northern governors, who met in Kaduna, on Friday, had taken a strong exception to the branding of perpetrators of crimes around the country as Fulani.
The Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who spoke on behalf of the group, said it was an insult to consider criminals as Fulani.
Afenifere, yesterday, faulted the governors’ position, asking them to bury their heads in shame.
The Yoruba group, which spoke through their National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, told Sunday Vanguard: “It (the northern governors’ position) is a sign of unfeeling, uncaring for any group today to come out and say that those who have been causing problems and killing people in the Middle Belt and the South are not Fulani herdsmen. They have killed in Agatu land, Enugu; a traditional ruler was killed in Delta State; they killed Chief Olu Falae’s guard and also kidnapped Chief Falae himself. For some people to gather and call themselves northern governors, and have no sympathy for lives than to be defending the Fulani herdsmen, shows clearly that it is a tragedy of monumental proportion to be in the same country with these elements. You also begin to wonder if the blood of human beings runs in their veins because anybody that has human blood running in his veins will not come and say that Fulani herdsmen are not responsible. What nonsense.”
The Afenifere spokesperson went on: “I think the northern governors should bury their heads in shame. I do not think they are fit to be in the comity of civilized human beings. If the attackers are not Fulani herdsmen, where have they struck in the North-West? Why are their activities only in the Middle Belt and in the South? That is the question these northern governors should answer. When militants were blowing up pipelines in the South-South, were they not called Niger Delta militants? Do they want us to call them Yoruba herdsmen?”
In a statement, the IYC described the northern governors’ position as an affront on other nationalities.
Spokesman for the group, Eric Omare, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, said the governors stance was disappointing and a tacit support for criminality and Fulani herdsmen pillaging of their host communities.
His words, “The statement by the northern governors is disappointing and a tacit support for criminality and the ongoing Fulani herdsmen terrorism.
“If they are interested in peace in Nigeria, they ought to be more concerned about the implication of the activities of the Fulani herdsmen rather than a perceived insult on the Fulani race.
“The IYC condemns the stand taken by the northern governors and calls on southern leaders to brace up for the challenges ahead.
“Furthermore, we wish to state that part of the reason Boko Haram grew to become a national problem was the tacit support given to them by northern political leaders and this Fulani herdsmen terrorism is taking the same pattern; hence it must be taken seriously.”

Gunmen Shoot At Pius Odubu In Auchi
DEPUTY Governor of Edo State Dr. Pius Odubu, yesterday escaped death by the whiskers when gunmen shot at him.
The incident happened at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Auchi as the deputy governor was receiving a delegation.
The attack took place a few minutes after Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Odubu left a party organised by Damian Lawani, representative of the Estako Central Constituency in the House of Assembly.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the secretariat and opened fire on the deputy governor and others at the meeting.
Five persons were said to have been critically injured, including the Guard Commander of the Deputy Governor’s Police team who covered his boss during the invasion.
Six delegates and three security details attached to Odubu are said to be in critical conditions.
They are receiving treatment at Faith Medical Centre in Auchi.

2016 Budget To Go Into Full Operation In Few Days
The Federal Government has re-assured Nigerians that the 2016 budget is
expected to go into full operations in the next few days.
This assurance was given by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was a guest speaker at the 12th edition of ‘The Platform’, an annual national discourse put together by Covenant Christian Centre, at the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
He said: “We expect that the budget will go into operation in the next few days.
“This year, isn’t it so interesting that we are all paying attention and we know what exactly is going on?” he asked.
Reeling out some of the government’s plans to 2016, Vice President further told the gathering that technology innovation hubs would be established across the country.
The target, according to him, is to have two Super Hubs – one in Lagos and the other in Abuja – and six Regional Technology Hubs in the six geo-political zones – South-east, South-south, South-west, North-west, North-central and North-east.
“In partnership with several major technology companies, the hubs will be fully resourced to the infrastructure and capacity building tools.
“Each hub will be designed to produce relevant innovative technology solutions to a wide range of business, commercial and government problems,” Professor Osinbajo stated.
He further stressed that the government of Buhari was completely and irrevocably committed to change, but warned that it may not be easy.
“Though the early signs may be confusing and sometimes discouraging, there has never been a better opportunity than now to turn the country in the direction of success.
“What we must do is not to blink. No shaking. Let us stay the course, keep our focus and see our country turn around,” the Vice President urged Nigerians
Professor Osinbajo also said that besides fighting corruption, the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration would create jobs for the people by further diversifying the economy.
“We will deepen the diversification of the economy.
“The big areas of focus are agriculture, agro-allied value chains, solid minerals, petrochemicals, technology and entertainment.
“We need to be completely self-sufficient in production of rice, wheat, tomato and several of the products that drain our foreign exchange.
“This country can feed itself, produce enough.
“All that we need to do is focus on those who are producing and remove the obstacles on the way of giving people who are producing money or resources that they need directly,” he stressed.
At the event, nation building, and not just nation formation was also identified as the solution to the socio-economic problems confronting Nigeria.
This suggestion was made by the convener of the platform, and Pastor of Covenant Christian Centre, Poju Oyemade.
The platform is an annual national discuss for promoting national growth and economic development.
The theme for this year is, ‘Nigeria, What Is In Your Hand? Tapping Into Our Dead Economy, Looking beyond Our Oil-driven Economy’.

Coup Speech Of Major-general Muhammadu Buhari,
In
pursuance of the primary objective of saving our great nation from total
collapse, I, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari of the Nigerian army have,
after due consultation amongst the services of the armed forces, been
formally invested with the authority of the Head of the Federal Military
Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is with humility and a deep sense of
responsibility that I accept this challenge and call to national duty.
As you must have heard in the previous announcement, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1979) has been suspended, except those sections of it which are exempted in the constitution. The change became necessary in order to put an end to the serious economic predicament and the crisis of confidence now afflicting our nation. Consequently, the Nigerian armed forces have constituted themselves into a Federal Military Government comprising of a Supreme Military Council, a National Council of States, a Federal Executive Council at the centre and State Executive Councils to be presided over by military governors in each of the states of the federation. Members of these councils will be announced soon. The last Federal Military Government drew up a programme with the aim of handing over political power to the civilians in 1979. This programme as you all know, was implemented to the letter. The 1979 constitution was promulgated. However, little did the military realise that the political leadership of the second republic will circumvent most of the checks and balances in the constitution and bring the present state of general insecurity. The premium on political power became so exceedingly high that political contestants regarded victory at elections as a matter of life and death struggle and were determined to capture or retain power by all means.

Five Disappointing Blunders In Tiwa Savage’s Controversial Video
After the raging hullabaloo over TeeBillz’s bombshell, the
superstar-brand-ambassador expectedly felt it was necessary to clear her
part and protect her career in what could have been a major doom. It
would be believed that she consulted her PR team for ‘professional’
advice on the best way to manage the looming crisis, and guess the
‘presumably brilliant piece’ they all came up with… a seemingly ‘staged’
video where she supposedly granted an interview with what was to be
believed by fans and stakeholders as some off-the-cuff candor.
The interview was meant to be seen as being purely unprecedented with credit of hard-work given to the interviewer’s platform. Perhaps, many took it just as that… Whatever was said in the interview wouldn’t be so much of my concern, but taking the PR profession for granted and insulting the innocence of people and essence of the PR practice is what I might not be able to stomach in this situation.
Tiwa is no doubt a big brand in Africa’s entertainment scene, and whatever professional display done by her or her team may instantly become a model for others to follow. The video (or interview) was not just an error; it was a huge professional blunder capable of garnering adverse ripple effect that may be largely counter-productive for her career, and quite misleading for upcoming stars and PR professionals. Below are 5 blunders in the video.
Granting a Camera-Light-Action interview in a space of 24 hours
Since when did we start granting a controlled video interview to ‘immediately’ respond to snowballing crisis in the entertainment scene in Nigeria? In this part of the world, everything under camera, light, and action is believed to be staged and obviously pre-arranged. I’m sure this is one of the reasons Charles Novia earlier called Tiwa a Beyonce-clone. Perhaps, Tiwa and her team failed to realize that it wouldn’t be easy to completely be a Beyonce clone in the Nigerian environment. Her PR team should have known better to simply set up a single camera video with a head-on shot somewhere in the corner of her room or her living room and give possible impression of staged drama a very wide berth. This is if at all a video is found necessary (oh! I understand her team really wanted to show the Nollywood sober mood in her costume with the repentant scarfing, and the largely exaggerated teary part with an obviously poor art director. If not, why a video?).
What!!! A 44-minute long video? (The shorter the merrier, my dear)
If her PR team were qualified professionals, they should have known that too much talk was one of the biggest threats to crisis communication. In fact, I would have wondered why even a 5-minute long video if at all it must be a video! In a sane country with a sane system, her too much talk in the bid to further exonerate herself and make TeeBillz the bad guy has landed her career in a massive doom. To bring back TeeBillz’s drinking habit and the alleged cocaine use is a ground of mere unreasonableness. Are brands and fans meant to congratulate ‘you’ for condoning, conniving and colluding with a partner who had been on the illegal side of the law for many years? Not to even say that connivance and collusion is a crime on the part of the law within marital issues. Yes, TeeBillz was unreasonable and also guilty for bringing back Tiwa’s alleged affairs with the three music stars since the law suggests that once you had condoned the action, it should not form basis for any further allegation. But, what Tiwa’s PR team failed to realize was that TeeBillz wasn’t a brand ambassador. Now, our supposed brand ambassador is also known as someone who condoned, connived and colluded with an alleged cocaine addict. What a shame! Hopefully, TeeBillz will not charge her for maligning his character, and then a part of the career and emotional distraction begins. Hopefully again, she is still a responsible brand ambassador after covering one of the world’s biggest criminal acts. What an insensitive charlatans called professional PR team.
The Nollywood Costume Stunt
If her PR team must create a Camera-Light-Action scene, why take away the Tiwa brand since we already know that the interview is a controlled one. The beginning of the failure of the video was the Nollywood’s repentant-born-again-Christian style. My conclusion was that the PR team had more of Nollywood movies than the real essence of PR practice.
The Artistic Tears
If anyone wonders again why such long video, this part should be an obvious answer. Hey, if there was no such display of tears, how would the PR team succeed at bouncing the Tiwa brand back to dominate and have a controlling influence on people’s emotions? There was urgent need to create sympathy and leverage it to survive the lingering storm. But the tears rather came like they had been pre-planned, and there was either a written or unwritten script that suggested that “this must be done at so so line… we need you to break the tears; it’s the high point of the video.” Tiwa didn’t really need to break the tears, and if she must, silent tears would have been more penetrating than the loud and seemingly staged ones.
The Disappointing Interviewer
If there must be a great staged play, the actors must be carefully selected! Kunle Afolayan is a great man to consult here… I wonder how the interviewer (Treating her as just an interviewer here) planned to substantiate the veracity of the video with her tacky and completely unprofessional display. She clearly showed how pre-ratified the interview questions were with her conservative and carefully selected conduct. It was really my first time of seeing such supposedly high profile interview with little or nothing coming from the interviewer; all her questions were clearly ratified and her spontaneity was complete zero… No expressions, no reactions, no further queries, nothing! That was very poor, my dear!!
While there could be more to say, I have decided to, as much as practicable, avoid talking about the family and whatever they could be pooling through; my concern is more about the increasing abuse of the practice of Public Relations that is even more rampant in the entertainment industry. I hope Tiwa’s supposed video rejoinder will not snowball into even bigger crisis for herself, her family and her career.
What a PR-damage-control stunt; probably the biggest PR goof of the decade.

The Coup Speech That Overthrew Buhari On August 27, 1985…
I, Brigadier Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro, of the Nigerian Army, hereby make
the following declaration on behalf of my colleagues and members of the
Nigerian Armed Forces.
Fellow country men, the intervention of the military at the end of 1983 was welcomed by the nation with unprecedented enthusiasm. Nigerians were unified in accepting the intervention and looked forward hopefully to progressive changes for the better. Almost two years later, it has become clear that the fulfillment of expectations is not forthcoming.
Because this generation of Nigerians and indeed future generations have no other country but Nigeria, we could not stay passive and watch a small group of individuals misuse power to the detriment of our national aspirations and interest.
No nation can ever achieve meaningful strides in its development where there is an absence of cohesion in the hierarchy of government; where it has become clear that positive action by the policy makers is hindered because as a body it lacks a unity of purpose.
It is evident that the nation would be endangered with the risk of continuous misdirection. We are presently confronted with that danger. In such a situation, if action can be taken to arrest further damage, it should and must be taken. This is precisely what we have done.
The Nigerian public has been made to believe that the slow pace of action of the Federal Government headed by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari was due to the enormity of the problems left by the last civilian administration.
Although it is true that a lot of problems were left behind by the last civilian government, the real reason, however, for the very slow pace of action is due to lack of unanimity of purpose among the ruling body; subsequently, the business of governance has gradually been subjected to ill-motivated power play considerations. The ruling body, the Supreme Military Council, has, therefore, progressively been made redundant by the actions of a select few members charged with the day-to-day implementation of the SMC’s policies and decision.
The concept of collective leadership has been substituted by stubborn and illadvised unilateral actions, thereby destroying the principles upon which the government came to power. Any effort made to advise the leadership, met with stubborn resistance and was viewed as a challenge to authority or disloyalty.
Thus, the scene was being set for systematic elimination of what, was termed oppositions. All the energies of the rulership were directed at this imaginary opposition rather than to effective leadership.
The result of this misdirected effort is now very evident in the country as a whole. The government has started to drift. The economy does not seem to be getting any better as we witness daily increased inflation.
The nation’s meager resources are once again being wasted on unproductive ventures. Government has distanced itself from the people and the yearnings and aspirations of the people as constantly reflected in the media have been ignored.
This is because a few people have arrogated to themselves the right to make the decisions for the larger part of the ruling body. All these events have shown that the present composition of our country’s leadership cannot, therefore, justify its continued occupation of that position.
Furthermore, the initial objectives and programmes of action which were meant to have been implemented since the ascension to power of the Buhari Administration in January 1984 have been betrayed and discarded. The present state of uncertainty and stagnation cannot be permitted to degenerate into suppression and retrogression.
We feel duty bound to use the resources and means at our disposal to restore hope in the minds of Nigerians and renew aspirations for a better future. We are no prophets of doom for our beloved country, Nigeria. We, therefore, count on everyone’s cooperation and assistance.
I appeal to you, fellow countrymen, particularly my colleagues in arms to refrain from any act that will lead to unnecessary violence and bloodshed among us. Rest assured that our action is in the interest of the nation and the armed forces.
In order to enable a new order to be introduced, the following bodies are dissolved forthwith pending further announcements: (a) The Supreme Military Council (b) The Federal Executive Council (c) The National Council of States. All seaports and airports are closed, all borders remain closed.
Finally, a dusk to dawn curfew is hereby imposed in Lagos and all state capitals until further notice. All military commanders will ensure effective maintenance of law and order. Further announcements will be made in due course. God bless Nigeria.
